Privacy notice
Version of 18 October 2026
Side by Side forms small groups of people who meet for coffee or a drink in Oslo. This notice explains what information we keep about you, why, and what you can do about it.
Who is responsible
Simon Gottipalli runs Side by Side and is responsible for your information. Write to privacy@sbs.sisu.fyi with any question or request about it.
What we keep and why
- Your email address, to sign you in with a code and to send you your meetup plans.
- Your name or alias, which the other people in your group see.
- Your signup answers: the times you can meet, the activity, and whether you would like to choose where your group meets. We use them to place you in a group.
- Your meetups: the groups you are in, their status, the place, if you chose it, and whether you came, if the site admin records it.
- Your feedback after a meetup: whether you met, whether you would meet the group again, and any comment.
- Reports you send about a problem, and anyone you ask us not to put you in a group with again. If someone reports you, the report and your name and email address are kept with it.
- Your consents: what you agreed to, when, and which version of this notice you saw.
- Sign-in records: sign-in codes (stored only in a form that cannot be read back), failed attempts and your signed-in sessions.
- The emails we send you, and whether they were delivered, so we can see when one does not arrive.
We ask you to confirm that you are 18 or older, but we do not ask your age, gender or other personal details. We use your IP address briefly to stop repeated sign-in attempts and do not store it. The site uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in; there is no advertising or tracking.
Why we are allowed to use it
We use your information because you consent to it. You choose each purpose with its own box, and only the first is needed to take part:
- Store and use my answers to form groups and send me plans while I am signed up (needed to take part)
- Email me when new slots are offered (optional)
You can withdraw any consent at any time, as described under Your rights.
Who sees it
Simon, as site admin, sees what is needed to run the service. People in your group see your name or alias, never your email address. Only Simon sees feedback and reports; we never tell anyone who reported them. We do not sell or share your information with anyone else, except these services we use to run Side by Side:
- Sliplane hosts the website and its database.
- Brevo sends our emails.
Both store your information in the EU.
How long we keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Your account, consents, signup answers and meetups | Until you delete your account |
| An account whose email address was never confirmed | 1 day |
| Your feedback and whether you came to a meetup | Until you delete your account |
| Reports | Until they are no longer needed to keep others safe; see below |
| Requests not to be grouped with someone | Until either of you deletes your account |
| Sign-in codes and failed sign-in attempts | 1 day |
| Signed-in sessions | 30 days after they end |
| Emails we send you and their delivery records | 90 days after sending |
| Encrypted backups of the database | 14 days |
If someone reports a safety concern, we may keep that report after an account is deleted, for as long as it is needed to keep others safe. A request not to be grouped with someone ends when either of you deletes your account. When you delete your account, your name and address are removed from reports you sent. When an account is deleted, we keep only a note of the date it happened, so we can show we did it. We make an encrypted backup of the database every night and keep each one for 14 days, so a deleted account is gone from the backups 14 days later.
Your rights
On the Your data page, after signing in, you can:
- see the information we keep about you, and download a copy of it
- correct your name or alias
- withdraw or give each consent
- delete your account and your information
Every email we send you links to that page. Withdrawing the consent needed to take part removes you from groups that have not met yet and deletes your account.
For anything else, such as changing your email address, or if you cannot sign in, write to privacy@sbs.sisu.fyi from the email address on your account. We reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice, we update the version date at the top and, where the change affects what you agreed to, ask for your consent again.
